Where to apply
Since 7 April 2025, the Embassy of Japan no longer takes tourist applications through its old list of accredited agencies. All temporary visitor applications are filed at a Japan Visa Application Centre (JVAC) run by VFS Global. You book an appointment online, then bring your documents to one of five centres: Makati, Parañaque, Quezon City, Cebu City or Davao City.

New in 2026: JAPAN eVISA for package tours
Since 15 May 2026, Filipinos living in the Philippines who join a package tour organised by an eligible travel agency can apply online for a JAPAN eVISA. It needs fewer documents (no bank certificate or statements) but covers tourism on approved tours only. Ask your agency whether its tour qualifies.

- Thin bank statements: a sudden large deposit right before applying looks suspicious; steady balances read better than one-time top-ups.
- Vague itineraries: "sightseeing in Tokyo" for six days reads as unprepared; name actual cities, dates and hotels.
- Signature mismatches: sign the form exactly as in your passport.
- Blurry or outdated ID photos: follow the 4.5×4.5 cm, white-background spec precisely.
- Income mismatch: make sure your declared income source matches your proof of income.
- Applying too early: a single-entry visa you don't use within three months expires.
